Beatty’s professional experience includes working as an attorney. For one year after law school in the mid-1990s, he worked as a clerk for Montana Supreme Court Justice Karla Gray. In 1996, he became a tax attorney for the Montana Department of Revenue and stayed with the department until he was appointed to lead it in 2020. He and his wife and children also own and operate a ranch in Flatwillow, Montana.[3][4]
Beatty grew up in Shelby, Montana, and graduated from Shelby High School in 1986. He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a law degree from the University of Montana. He lives with his wife in Flatwillow, Montana. They have two sons.
