Yellowstone Academy
Our Mission
Our purpose at Yellowstone Academy (YA) is to provide excellence in education through trusting, positive, and supportive relationships.
Who We Serve
Yellowstone Academy provides specialized educational programming for:
- Youth in residential care at Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch
- Students in need of Day Treatment from surrounding school districts
We serve children facing emotional and behavioral challenges in a stable, supportive environment, helping them gain the skills they need to succeed.
Our Approach to Education
At Yellowstone Academy, we go beyond the classroom—teaching students the skills to excel academically, behaviorally, and personally. Our programs combine structured learning, therapeutic support, and individualized attention to ensure every student reaches their full potential.
Tailored Learning, Smaller Class Sizes
Our educational programs include:
- General and special education
- A wide array of elective courses, including fine and practical arts, music, health, physical education (PE), and business classes
- Vocational training
- Title programs and 504 services
Class sizes are kept to 12 students or fewer, ensuring a high staff-to-student ratio and a personalized learning experience. We operate year-round on a trimester calendar to provide consistent academic support.
Excellence in Academics
Yellowstone Academy is accredited by the Montana Office of Public Instruction (K-8) and AdvancED (K-12). Our high school courses meet state accreditation standards, allowing students to earn diplomas.
Located on the 410-acre Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch campus, we are one of the few public schools in the western United States affiliated with a residential treatment center that meets multiple state accreditation standards.
